These partnerships allow emerging local artists to meet new artistic communities from different territories, while also enabling national and international artists to build connections with the Montreal creative scene. These exchanges lead to the enrichment of artistic practices and foster collaboration within the artistic community. Each pair, consisting of one artist and one dramaturg, confronts their creative ideals by participating in various activities: residencies, meetings, and exchanges. These exchanges are intertwined with major events organized by the involved organizations, including Africa is\/in the Future and OFFTA. LA SERRE \u2013 arts vivants and La Bellone are both committed to supporting contemporary creation, as well as the aesthetic and political questions that stem from it. Fully immersed in LA SERRE\u2019s spaces, they installed their library, brought from overseas, for a few weeks. The artists were also invited to create into the wild, benefiting from a five-day residency at the Devenir(s) corps studio, perched atop a small mountain in Montpellier, Quebec. Finally, an informal gathering bringing together the artists in residence and those supported by LA SERRE took place in Montreal at Bar La Remise on Thursday, November 6.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_toggle_section av-mltm7fbr-c606407b4071f05aa6296415720fea34'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div role=\"tablist\" class=\"single_toggle\" data-tags=\"{All} \"  ><p data-fake-id='#toggle-id-3' class='toggler   '  itemprop=\"headline\"  role='tab' tabindex='0' aria-controls='toggle-id-3'>24-25 JJ Houle (QC) + Charles Voyer (QC)<span class=\"toggle_icon\"><span class=\"vert_icon\"><\/span><span class=\"hor_icon\"><\/span><\/span><\/p><div id='toggle-id-3' class='toggle_wrap  '  ><div class='toggle_content invers-color '  itemprop=\"text\" ><p class=\"p1\">From March 31 to April 11, 2025, artists Charles Voyer (director and performer) and J.J. Houle (author and playwright) from Le Th\u00e9\u00e2tre ind\u00e9pendant collective were hosted for a dramaturgical residency to work on a new creation. For 10 days, the artists worked between the Documentation Centre and the Gallery, while also having the opportunity to share ideas with people attending Vincent Focquet\u2019s dramaturgical seminar, which explores polyphonic spaces. The artists were invited to grasp, define, and practice dramaturgy within the framework of their creative work. This residency was a powerful time of exchanges and encounters at an important step in their careers.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_toggle_section av-m7mbv05k-3f854546ec3859b92772746d45ffbfac'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div role=\"tablist\" class=\"single_toggle\" data-tags=\"{All} \"  ><p data-fake-id='#toggle-id-4' class='toggler   '  itemprop=\"headline\"  role='tab' tabindex='0' aria-controls='toggle-id-4'>24-25 Mara Dupas (QC) + Camille Gendron (QC)<span class=\"toggle_icon\"><span class=\"vert_icon\"><\/span><span class=\"hor_icon\"><\/span><\/span><\/p><div id='toggle-id-4' class='toggle_wrap  '  ><div class='toggle_content invers-color '  itemprop=\"text\" ><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From November 4 to 14, 2024, Mara Dupas and Camille Gendron traveled to Brussels as part of the cross-residencies between LA SERRE and La Bellone. During these two weeks, the artists participated in the Africa is\/in the Future festival, held annually by La Bellone for its 9th edition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hosted in the Gallery, the artists worked on Mara&#8217;s solo piece Olympia 2.0, exploring fluid and undulating gestures. This work reflects on the artist&#8217;s relationship with her body as an Afro-descendant individual and the invisibilization of the experiences of racialized people, while abstractly addressing notions of exoticism and fantasy. By refusing to directly reveal her face, Mara seeks to subvert the audience\u2019s expectations, offering them the opportunity to discover her, partially, through a mirror.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_toggle_section av-m7mcd9dl-f08f58e6c1fec1a270755b59c0f53594'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div role=\"tablist\" class=\"single_toggle\" data-tags=\"{All} \"  ><p data-fake-id='#toggle-id-5' class='toggler   '  itemprop=\"headline\"  role='tab' tabindex='0' aria-controls='toggle-id-5'>23-24 Marilou Craft (QC) + Marie Umuhoza (BE)<span class=\"toggle_icon\"><span class=\"vert_icon\"><\/span><span class=\"hor_icon\"><\/span><\/span><\/p><div id='toggle-id-5' class='toggle_wrap  '  ><div class='toggle_content invers-color '  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>In February 2023, artist and playwright Marilou Craft (Montreal) completed a two-week exploration and research residency at La Bellone (Brussels). She met her artist pair, Marie Umuhoza, the center&#8217;s cultural workers (Myl\u00e8ne Lauzon, Florent Garnier) and playwright Riccardo Fazi. Marilou Craft was provided with a workspace space (\u201cle Cocoon\u201d) and accommodation on site. She also benefited from a dramaturgical seminar with Riccardo Fazi, sound artist and associate playwright at La Bellone. The residency and seminar culminated in the presentation of a stage of work followed by an end-of-residency interview (Half &amp; Half Closer).<\/p>\n<p>Marie Umuhoza (Brussels) was in residence at LA SERRE in Montreal during the OFFTA 2023 festival. As our spaces were being renovated at the time, the Regroupement qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois de la Danse joined the project as a partner, offering her a workspace. Marie Umuhoza took part in many of the conversations, activities and conferences offered as part of the OFFTA and FTA.
