Clémence Dufresne-Deslières began taking on film roles as a teenager before entering the National Theatre School of Canada, where she graduated from the acting program in 2021. As a creator, Clémence works with what is wounded, essential and secret. Her approach stems from a tension between a need to be vulnerable and a fear of revealing. She’s interested in the construction of gender identity, courage as a transformative force at a personal and societal level, psychosomatic pain, loneliness and getting together. Clémence’s approach to the stage is non text-centric – objects, words and gestures are on an equal footing. She favors nostalgia and melancholy, but also playfulness. The result is a succession of lively and fragmented tableaux, whose poetry sublimates reality.

ENFANT-MARÉCAGE

Following an initial phase of work with La Serre during the Vous êtes ici 2022 residency, Clémence Dufresne-Deslières is bringing the ENFANT-MARÉCAGE team together once again to further her research. ENFANT-MARÉCAGE is a theatrical piece about the development of gender identity in childhood. Drawing on memories from her own experience, Clémence seeks to reveal the complexity of identity construction outside the gender binary. This proposition comes to life within a form that combines scenographic elements, text and movement. Dufresne-Deslières pays particular attention to the accuracy of emotions, the evocative power of objects, and risk-taking through vulnerability and multidisciplinarity.
