Nindy Banks

This first research project was born from a love for Hip Hop culture and for fashion. With her dance practice rooted in freestyle and her collaborations with various choreographers, Nindy has developed a particular interest in the body as a vehicle of emotions and sensations, but also as an expression of identity. A return to studies nourishes her reflection on the impact of fashion on identity and artistic expression. What would result from a creative process during which particular attention would be paid, from the beginning of a process, to clothes and their effects on the body in motion?

In the field of dance, where the body is the main tool of communication, Nindy Banks believes it is all the more important to understand the influence that clothing has on the body, on our self-perception and on the way which others perceive us. According to the concept “enclothed cognition”, clothes have an influence on the psychological processes of the person who wears them. They give us the power to create and perform our multiple personalities. The gestures, attitudes, postures and – in the context of her artistic practice – the movement that accompany the wearing of clothing are decisive in the information communicated. Through this project, Nindy seeks to analyze the relationship between her different dress codes and her movement in order to shed light on the psychological concept of self-image. How do different clothes or clothing styles affect self-perception? How does this information translate into movement?
