Lauranne Faubert-Guay

Lauranne Faubert-Guay is a choreographer, performer, curator, and researcher in contemporary dance. At the intersection of choreography and sociology, Lauranne develops a practice in which movement becomes a political and poetic laboratory. Grounded in queer thought, her work explores the ways bodies transform themselves and resist the logics of exhaustion, analgesia, and extraction that shape our lives. Her choreographic works weave together emancipation, ordeal, and utopia through a rigorous visual language and an intensely vibrant physicality. From her choreographic practice emerge spaces where other ways of inhabiting both intimate and collective worlds can be imagined. Since 2020, Lauranne has served as Artistic Director of Devenir(s) corps, an organization that supports artistic creation and fosters greater accessibility to the performing arts in rural communities.

Friends & Hammers

Friends & Hammers is a choreographic project about friendship and hammers. Inspired by the writings of Sara Ahmed and bell hooks, it considers friendship as a political force at the foundation of collective struggle and intimacy, and the hammer as both a weapon and a tool capable of dismantling oppressive structures and transforming the material and symbolic world.

Rigour, solidarity, and queerness lie at the heart of the work.

Three performers, hammers always in hand, shatter bricks, pound piano keyboards to the rhythm of classical music, caress one another, and dance with relentless precision. They trace, dig, and build imaginary territories sheltered from the bombs.

Because using hammers among friends means loving the world enough to want to transform it.
