Rose de la Riva is a visual artist and cultural worker born under the sign of cancer in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. In a sponge-like manner, she soaks everything up, collects experiences, texts and emotions sparked by stories, paintings, plants and landscapes. Takingimprovisation and intuitive associations as a starting point, the resulting practice is based on performance art and a production of videos, drawings and installations.
The multidisciplinary aspect of her practice allows her to reflect (on) the cyclical nature of her research, and develop a methodology that unfolds with the seasons. In response to a default state of burnout and the burden of care, her current research is turning to the possibilities of renouncement, immobility, pause and rest.

Resting Witch Phase

Resting Witch Phase is a multidisciplinary project developed around the themes of exhaustion and care, is a processual performative form that establishes a link between the dormancy of plants, our productivity cycles and the traumas resulting from capitalism. With this piece, Rose de la Riva attempts to combine poetry, sound effects and existential questions, crafting a tendentious essay where disparate symbols and iconographies meet, drawing from horticulture, witchcraft, activism and first aid practices.
