dada

dada (Haiti/Québec, 1998) is a lawyer who is currently assistant director of the Clinique juridique de Saint-Michel. During her studies, she was a university research assistant in philosophy and legal theory and in environmental law. She is currently studying for a master’s degree in law at the Université de Montréal.

A self-taught artist based in Tiohtià: ke, she uses spoken word, writing, poetic language and, more recently, sound creation to offer forms that seek the unstable balance between the impulse to name things accurately and the beauty of what is imperceptible and unspeakable. She enjoys exploring layers of sound that combine field recording, poetry, synthesizers, effects pedal chains, samples and archival documentary sound.

Her work has been presented in Montreal (Quebec), Caraquet (Acadia), Brussels (Belgium) and Grand-Popo (Benin). Her spiritual, professional, academic and social roots greatly influence her artistic expression. Her current research focuses on writing about the real, marooning, regimes of extraction and appearance, the place of sound archives in research and creation, and consolation.
