Ghinwa Yassine

Ghinwa Yassine is a Lebanese canadian anti-disciplinary artist based on the unceded Territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-waututh people, also known as Vancouver. Rooted in speculative feminist auto-theory, her practice spans film, installation, performance, sound, sculpture, and text. Yassine’s work explores somatic engagements with story through space, creating multimedia performances and installations that bring her feminist speculative writings to life.
Incorporating humor and absurdity, she embodies characters or alter-egos that constitute what she calls feminist freedom futurity, a liminal space between embodying a militant activist and a Barbie girl–in her case, a belly dancer.

SEEING DOUBLE

Seeing Double is a research project at the intersection of performance, installation and audio storytelling. Blending reality and fiction, it explores the dissonance of living through war and exile while searching for pleasure, rest and intimacy. In a cosy stage space, the artist weaves absurd, tender and painful stories where humour, desire and grief coexist. This new phase of research aims to deepen the project’s immersive dimension by experimenting with a performative audio installation that explores the proximity between sound, voice, and body.
