Based in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montreal, Sarah Chouinard-Poirier approaches performance, film, digital arts, and writing through a transdisciplinary lens. They imagine performative scenarios that intertwine reflections on gender, class, labour, and embodied experience, drawing inspiration from stream of consciousness, vernacular narratives, intertextuality, and speculation. Drawing from their work experience in the community sector, their practice mobilizes the lived experiences and situated knowledge of the people and communities they work with, exploring how live art can engage in dialogue with community-based practices and harm reduction approaches.

JUDITH

Who is this other, whose consciousness has been evacuated from the body, whose blood and teeth we fear? In JUDITH, a research project eaving together situated knowledge, speculation, cinematic codes, and elements of pop culture, Sarah Chouinard-Poirier invites audiences to examine the divide between the human and the less-than-human. Drawing from their community and activist work with people who use drugs, Sarah seeks to awaken their dead, so that they might gnaw at the hygienist, racist, and classist biopowers that govern substances and bodies. Through humour, quotation, confession, and embodiment, the artist interrogates the language and metaphors of the undead, revealing how these imaginaries are used to monetize fear of the Other in the context of the war on drugs.
